昨日の話、全然違っていました。
確認せずに書いてはいけませんね。
実際はこういう感じでした。
場所はホーチミン市から国道１号線を南下すること７５ｋｍ。
Bac村(Ap Bac)にその記念碑はありました。
「草むらに埋もれている」という情報はあながち嘘とも言い難く、違いは雑草ではなく
稲穂の中にあったのです。つまり水田の中。草取りをしている人々の背後に点々と
無秩序に並んでいたのです。アメリカのハイウェイ沿いに立っているビルボードみたいな
看板状のもの、よく見ると、戦車の形やヘリコプターの形になっており、それぞれ火の手が
上がっているように描かれています。つまり、解放戦線ベトコンが撃破した米軍の戦車やヘリコプター
を模しているのです。それらが攻撃を受け爆破されたそれぞれの場所に１機、１台ずつ
ビルボードの形になって立っているのです。稲穂の中に誇らしげに。
ベトナム戦争が風化したどころかむしろこのBac村の場合は生活の中に溶け込ませて、
いつまでも忘れないぞという覚悟のように見えました。
聞いたところによると、Bac村は１９６３年１月２日解放戦線と米軍（まだ、軍事顧問という立場だと思いますが）
が初めて戦火を交えた場所で、攻めてきたベトナム政府軍と米軍４０００名を解放戦線３５０名が追い返したと
いうことです。米軍の近代的な戦車やヘリコプターに対してベトコン側は重機関銃１丁と手榴弾そして竹槍で
戦ったそうです。この戦い方がその後のベトコンの戦法として定着、１９７５年の勝利に結びついたというわけです。
やはり、物事は現場に来てみないと分かりませんね。
昨日の印象はまったく思いこみによる誤解でした。
